Bomberwoman alpha version

Bomberwoman

a PC Game

Alpha Version 0.9

Bomb NEWS:
- The first Level is now complete. There is some sort of BIG-BOSS. hmm... to be honest
the Big-Boss is very small.
- The game is much faster now, because I improved the most time consuming parts.
(The writing into display memory is done DWord aligned)
- I decided to add the latest non alpha version to this site. Download the bomb10.exe and overwrite the existing one
after that the leveleditor is ready to use. It is much more professional than any I have seen before :-)
The IPX network is enabled. But the only thing that works is the lobby :-(
If You try to start a network game, Your Computer will hang. I do not work on this project any longer and I only want
to proof that I was able to establish a ipx network in an pmode environment.

Bomb WARNING:
Install and use this software at your own risk.

Bomb ABOUT THE GAME:
This game is a Bomberman Clone. There are several Bomberman Clones around.
But I miss some features in all that games.
First : The Singleplayer Mode is no challenge. Because of that I
included Transmitters, switches and doors into the game.
Second: The playfield in Multiplayer Mode was only as big as one screen.
In times of Networks there is no need to sit in front of one single screen. So I included
an IPX protocol (not available in Alpha Version).

Bomb SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
P100+,SVGA,SB16/pro (optional),Joystick (optional)

Bomb TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
This program is written in pure 32 Bit assembler using the DOS32 DOS-Extender.
The Video Mode is 640*480*256. Up to now only the bank-switching mode is implemented.
Most of the graphic is rendered.
8 Sound Channels are mixed in a ring buffer.
Level Size is 101*101 Tiles. A Tile is a graphic consisting of 32*32 Pixels.
The original game has only 2 types of Tiles, blocking and not blocking ones.
This game has also tiles your player cannot pass but the flames of your bomb pass it (Water)
The players movement is not limited to 4 directions.

Bomb KNOWN BUGS:
Sometimes the Soundblaster cannot be initialized when starting the game. If you encounter this problem
please enter the Setup again and choose NO SOUNDCARD.
If anything else does not work feel free to send me a bug report.

Bomb THANKS TO:
Adam Seychell for the great DOS32 DOS Extender.

Bomb HOW TO PLAY:
Your mission is to bomb away all the enemies in a Level.
Use the following Keys to do this:
Cursor Keys Movement
STRG Drop a bomb
+/- change screen size
When You have finished a level you are transported to the next one. Once You have canceled
a running game You can continue at the beginning of the last level You were in by selecting
continue in the Main Menu.

Bomb INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
First of all: This program is not meant to run under a Windows environment.
Perhaps it works, but to be on the safe side run it from the DOS Prompt.
After downloading the game You should unpack it with UNRAR.
Be sure that at least to subdirectories are created.
Now start the Setup.exe program to configure your Soundcard.
Execute Bomb10.exe to start the game.

Bomb IS SOMEONE INTERESTED TO JOIN THE PROJECT ?
Future:
I would like to port this game to DirectX.
This requires programming in C++. My own skills are above average concerning this :-))
You would learn:
- object oriented programming
- COM interface programming
- using Direct3D, DirectSound, DirectInput and DirectPlay
- 3D capabilities of the latest graphic boards around and how to use them
- using 3DMax as rendering software
- and of course Windows programming
Is someone out there who wants to help.
Don`t hesitate to get some info.

Past:
If You are interested in Computer graphics, sound or programming send me an E-mail.
You don't need to have a special knowledge.
If You are interested in graphics it would help if you know something about rendering
techniques. You should be able to use Graphic Programs as Paint Shop.
Because of the fact that the program can only handle 8-bit mono samples I am looking
for some free samples to include.
I desperately need someone with 32 bit assembler knowledge. This project includes anything
You could imagine(VESA, IPX, SB ...).
Interested ? Give it a try !
It would help if You live in the area around Aachen.
